DESCRIPTION:Ages: 8-10 years old\nDates: Saturdays\, March 9\, 16\, 23\, 30\nTime: 2:00-3:30pm PT\nTuition: $200 (Financial Aid is available)\nLocation: In-person at 540 S Marengo Ave\, Pasadena CA 91101 \nCourse Description: Students will first learn about how cells work through designing a “Cell City” and studying how the different parts of a cell work together. Then they’ll learn about cell differentiation and the remarkable healing abilities of stem cells by coming up with their own stem cell superhero. In the third meeting\, students will discover how stem cells can address real-world challenges. They’ll learn about stem cells’ potential to heal and regenerate\, using them as tools to solve environmental issues by navigating challenges and solving puzzles inspired by real-world scenarios. In the final session\, the class will conduct hands-on experiments to demystify the magic of stem cells and explore their fascinating properties! This workshop series is open to students age 8 to 10\, regardless of background knowledge. \nPrior registration required. Deadline to register is February 29\, 2024.

Join Kasi Peters on a tour of homeschooling as she discusses the specific considerations for neurodiverse families. She will discuss the pros and cons of homeschooling\, the social aspects as well as various homeschooling philosophies and help you determine if homeschooling is a viable option for your family (hint: it often can be). This discussion is for you if you are curious about homeschooling\, or a veteran homeschooler looking for some fresh insight. \nAbout the Speaker:\nKasi Peters is a passionate advocate for gifted and twice-exceptional children and their families. She has served on the boards of many gifted organizations including SENG\, Profoundly Gifted Retreat\, and Gifted Homeschoolers Forum. Kasi holds a certificate in Gifted and Talented Education and is a graduate student at Bridges Graduate School of Cognitive Diversity. Kasi is co-founder of Westside of Los Angeles Gifted\, and Square Pegs supporting gifted families through parent groups and individual consulting around alternative educational opportunities. She has been homeschooling her two gifted children since 2012. Kasi is also a board-certified music therapist primarily working with children who have special needs. \n

Gallagher\, President of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)\, will be at our Pasadena learning center to talk about problem-based learning. This presentation is open to educators of all levels. To register\, fill out the form below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEVENT DESCRIPTION\n\n\n\nAre you new to PBL?  Do you want to know how a problem begins and how a unit evolves?  Do you know the difference between problems and projects?  Want to learn how to adapt PBL for gifted learners?  Find answers through simulation\, research\, and classroom examples.  Most of all\, experience the benefit of student engagement when learning is framed in a PBL story! This session combines demonstration\, information\, and practical examples\, to convey the fundamentals of Problem-Based Learning.  After experiencing a “deep dive” into a PBL unit in the morning\, the afternoon focuses on the basics of problem design.
