DESCRIPTION:Ages: 8-10 years old\nDates: Saturdays\, March 9\, 16\, 23\, 30\nTime: 2:00-3:30pm PT\nTuition: $200 (Financial Aid is available)\nLocation: In-person at 540 S Marengo Ave\, Pasadena CA 91101 \nCourse Description: Students will first learn about how cells work through designing a “Cell City” and studying how the different parts of a cell work together. Then they’ll learn about cell differentiation and the remarkable healing abilities of stem cells by coming up with their own stem cell superhero. In the third meeting\, students will discover how stem cells can address real-world challenges. They’ll learn about stem cells’ potential to heal and regenerate\, using them as tools to solve environmental issues by navigating challenges and solving puzzles inspired by real-world scenarios. In the final session\, the class will conduct hands-on experiments to demystify the magic of stem cells and explore their fascinating properties! This workshop series is open to students age 8 to 10\, regardless of background knowledge. \nPrior registration required. Deadline to register is February 29\, 2024.

DESCRIPTION:Sewer Science is a wastewater treatment laboratory for high school science students. In this award-winning program\, students create simulated wastewater; clean it through a series of physical\, chemical\, and biological treatment processes; and test it for various water quality parameters. The program not only teaches how wastewater is treated but also links science and technology to environmental impacts and issues. The materials for this LABS series will be provided by the LA County Sanitation Districts (LACSD). \n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Gifted Support Group: Emotional Regulation
DESCRIPTION:Emotional regulation: what is it? And how do we support it? Olivia will help us dig deeper to uncover the complexity of emotional regulation. She will provide information about sensory processing and how it impacts our student’s participation both in home and at school. She will also discuss strategies and “toolbox” ideas to bring regulation into their lives. This presentation is for parents whose child is struggling with dysregulation\, meltdowns\, decreased frustration tolerance\, difficulty making mistakes\, or shut downs. \nAbout the Speaker \nOlivia is a licensed occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience supporting kids and their families in both the private and public-school sector. She is also a licensed marriage and family therapist\, supporting clients experiencing anxiety\, depression\, post-traumatic stress\, sexual identity questions\, life/career transitions\, and aging. Olivia is also a mother of three\, two with neuro-differences\, and uniquely integrates her professional expertise and lived experiences with her clients. She is the co-division leader of the OT department at The Center for Connection in Pasadena\, CA. She is also the co-director of The Center for Connection and Neurodiversity in Duarte\, Ca\, which is part of the flagship center in Pasadena. Olivia specializes in providing support to children\, adults\, and their families through a neurodevelopmental\, relational\, sensory integrative\, anti-behavioral\, playful approach. She\, along with her colleagues\, provides one-to-one therapy\, parent consultations\, paraprofessional training\, in-services\, and assessments. She is a regular speaker at professional conferences and universities integrating occupational therapy\, marriage and family therapy\, and the parent perspective.
