A Path for Returning Campers

For many students, IEA Camp Yunasa becomes more than a single summer—it becomes a place they return to and grow within. The Leadership Program is a selective opportunity for returning campers ages 15–16 who are ready to take on a more active role in the community.

What It Is

The program is designed to help older, experienced campers develop leadership through participation, responsibility, and example. Leadership participants

  • Support and encourage younger campers
  • Model positive engagement and community values
  • Take on increased responsibility within daily activities

Guided by dedicated counselors, the experience focuses on growth, self-awareness, and leadership in action.

How It Works

At each Yunasa camp, staff observe and get to know campers—their engagement, participation, and readiness for greater responsibility. Based on this, selected returning campers are invited to apply for the Leadership Program when they are 15–16 years old. Invitation is based on:

  • Active, positive participation in the Yunasa community
  • Emotional maturity and readiness
  • Interest in supporting and guiding others
  • Because space is limited, placement in the program is selective and intentional.

Applicants should indicate that they have been invited to apply for the Leadership Program on the Yunasa application.

Why It Matters

The Leadership Program reflects Yunasa’s core values:

  • Growth does not end after one summer.
  • It continues through deeper connection, greater responsibility, and the opportunity to contribute to the experience of others.

A Continuing Journey

Many Leadership participants began as first-time campers who found a sense of belonging at Yunasa. The Leadership Program offers a way to return—not just as participants, but as contributors to the community that shaped them.

“IEA Camp Yunasa has been truly transformative. Our boy experienced an acceptance of self and group connection that he’s never had before – a magical experience…”
