IEA Explore Mentorships

IEA Explore gives gifted and advanced high school students the opportunity to explore their interests and pursue real-world work—through hands-on learning, research, mentorship, and pre-professional experiences that extend beyond the classroom.

Students begin connecting curiosity to future pathways. This program includes IEA’s enrichment programs such as research mentorship, workshops, summer externships, and career development opportunities.

Past opportunities have included “Introduction to Research through Botany” externship, plus Career Panels and Pre-Professional Development Speaker Events.

Current Mentorship

Students conduct original research alongside advisors and mentors. They develop laboratory skills, analyze results, collaborate and present findings at events such as LACSEF and Caltech’s SEAL Conference. Research topics can include cancer immunotherapy, animal communication, and sustainable energy.

Sessions run year-round. Students are encouraged to participate across multiple sessions for deeper progress.

In-person only; students must attend twice weekly in Pasadena.

There is currently a waitlist for students ages 14–18 who would like to join this program.

“I learned so much in-depth knowledge about biology, colleges, and working in a lab, my high school could never offer me an experience like this.”
